Responding to persistent demands of Anganwadi workers, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced a hike in their monthly remuneration and enhancement of their social security fiscal grants.

Patnaik made an announcement in this regard here today ahead of simultaneous polls. Many tend to believe that hike of this nature in a pre-poll sop.

The salary of the Anganwadi workers has been enhanced to Rs 10,000 from Rs 7,500 per month, and the salary of mini-Anganwadi workers increased to Rs 7,250 from Rs 5,375.

The helpers of Anganwadi centres would now be disbursed monthly honorarium of 3,750 while they were being paid Rs 3,000 earlier, according to an official statement.

They will get generous assistance as social security along with the increase in the incentive amount of service break. It will benefit 1.48 lakh anganwadi workers and assistants.

This increase in wages will be implemented retrospectively from October 2023. Four month increments will be credited to their bank accounts next month.

Similarly, the amount of incentive received by Anganwadi employees in the ‘exit policy’ (disengagement) has also been increased. It will be effective from April 1, 2024. As per the increased incentive amount, the workers will get Rs 1 lakh instead of Rs 40 thousand earlier while the mini workers will get Rs 75,000 instead of Rs 30,000. The assistants will get Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 20,000.

Similarly, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to Anganwadi workers, mini workers and helpers for death or accidental total physical disability and up to Rs 1 lakh for partial disability. This facility will also be applicable from 1 April this year, the statement concluded.
